Anna Pottery Stoneware "World's Fair" Pig Flask, Anna, Illinois origin, Dated 1893, molded in the form of a reclining pig with hole at rear, incised details to face and hooves, and anatomically-correct underside. Surface covered in a brown Albany slip glaze and incised with the inscription "Fresh Pork / From the Worlds Fair / With a little good old Rye / in a Pig's 1893". The rear is additionally incised "Cut Rates / to the World's Fair / by the I.C.R.R." beside the pig's cut testicles, an example of this pottery's fondness for word play. Incised penis on underside. A typical, small in-the-firing chip to one rear hoof. Shallow chipping and roughness to spout. Surface scratches and wear. A tiny nick to back edge of one ear, possibly in-the-firing. L 6 1/4".
