Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. SWANK & CO. / JOHNSTOWN, PA", circa 1875, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a sweeping floral design on the front and reverse. Brushed cobalt number 4 under one handle, underscored by three stripes. Area below opposite handle impressed with J. Swank & Co. maker's mark and a four-gallon capacity stamp, underscored by four cobalt stripes. Leaf-like cobalt brushwork to handle terminals. Several small rim chips. Some fry to cobalt. Base with bubbled cobalt drip adjacent to a 1" in-the-firing base chip. Some shallow in-the-firing base chips.
