Unusual One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Manhattan, NY Advertising and Cobalt Bird Decoration, New York City or New York State origin, circa 1880, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a long-tailed bird perched on a stylized branch. Impressed above with the cobalt-highlighted advertising "S. BLUMENTHAL & CO / 631 8TH AVE / NEW YORK". An approximately 3 3/4" crack from rim on reverse.
