Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Cake Crock with Lid, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1870, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a two-stemmed clover motif. Brushed cobalt band over tops of handles and around handle terminals. Includes a fitting swag-decorated lid, Pennsylvania origin. Crock with numerous rim chips, a small handle chip, and a 3 1/2" hairline from rim. Lid with 2" loss to flange on underside, additional minor wear to flange on underside, as well as a large, circular unglazed area on top, caused when an object was stacked on top of it during the firing.
