Two Miniature Stoneware Jars with Cold-Painted Produce Inscriptions, probably Indiana origin, fourth quarter 19th century, both of similar handled form with Albany-slip-glazed surfaces, one with gold-painted inscription, "Pickles / 1885", the other with gold-painted inscription, "Preserves / 1885". Provenance: Found in Indiana. Pickles jar in excellent, as-made condition. Preserves jar with two rim nicks on reverse, a tiny handle nick, and an in-the-firing contact mark to reverse. H (of Pickles jar) 2 7/8".
