Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Bowl with Cobalt Swag Decoration, Stamped "MILLER & WOODARD / STRASBURG, VA", circa 1885, tapered bowl with squared rim and small tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed inverted swag motif in the Strasburg style. Lightly-impressed under one handle with the difficult-to-find maker's mark of potter, George Miller and merchant, William Woodward. Smooth 3/4" base chip, possibly in-the-firing, and a second, minor base chip. Heavy chipping to rim. A chip to one handle.
