Two Pieces of White Family Stoneware with Cobalt Bird Decorations, Utica, NY origin, second half 19th century, a five-gallon crock with fantailed bird decoration, stamped “WHITES UTICA,”; paired with a four-gallon crock with paddletailed bird decoration, stamped “N.A. WHITE & SON / UTICA, NY”. Whites Utica crock with poorly-restored top-to-bottom crack on front, a thin top-to-bottom crack on reverse, wire around shoulder, a rim chip on reverse, minor handle handle nicks, and some small flakes to surface. N.A. White & Son crock with significant flaking to surface, some of which is partially colored, an in-the-firing separation in rim, and a faint star-shaped line in underside.
