Very Rare Half-Gallon Celadon-Glazed Jug with Cobalt Swag and Spot Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO," PA origin, circa 1860, cylindrical jug with rounded shoulder, wide spout, and applied strap handle, decorated with a highly unusual brushed cobalt swag and spot design around the shoulder and cobalt dots along the handle, all applied over a greenish celadon glazed. The use of cobalt decoration over celadon is a rare and desirable treatment occassionally found on John Bell pottery. Excellent color and desirable small size. Provenance: A recently discovered example found in New England. Excellent condition with a hairline at base of handle. H 9 1/4".
