Six-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1840, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied tab handles, decorated with a brushed floral garland extending from handle to handle on the front and reverse. Area below rim decorated with brushed cobalt swags. Heavy cobalt highlights to handle terminals, along with vertical cobalt slashes underneath. Excellent size and decoration. Sealed chip to underside of one handle, and a small sealed chip to end of opposite handle. Tight hairline extending across underside and approximately 7" up one side of jar.
