Sgraffito Redware Plate with Deer Motif, probably Jacob Medinger, Limerick Township, Montgomery County, PA, late 19th or early 20th century, with coggled edge, the interior decorated with a sgraffito design of a stag with turned head and detailed body, flanked by a flowering vine design. Incised "1814" above. Finely-executed sgraffito-decorated border. Interior decorated with streaks of copper over yellow slip, and covered in a clear lead glaze. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example from an old Philadelphia collection. Rim chips. A 1" glazed-over line from edge, visible on interior only. A minor, 3/8" separation at edge, primarily visible on exterior only. Minor wear to interior. Diameter 9 1/2".
