Rare Sewertile Duck Doorstop, Midwestern U.S. origin, Dated 1901, molded figure of a duck resting on two feet, with good detail to wings, tail, and head. Incised with the date "1901" on underside. Full-bodied ducks were uncommon as they had a density to explode in the kiln due to their density. According to sewertile authority, Jack Adamson, this example was likely molded from a decoy. Provenance: Jack and Susan Batdorff Collection; purchased in 1997 directly from Jack Adamson, early collector, author, and sewertile expert. Literature: Pictured in Jack E. Adamson, Illustrated Handbook of Ohio Sewer Pipe Folk Art, 1973. Excellent condition with a very minor chip to back of one foot and some in-the-firing drips to duck's back. L 11 1/2".
