Rare Rome, NY Stoneware Jug with Freehand Inscription, circa 1830, highly-ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with the large brushed cobalt inscription "Rome / . . .tilary / Company / Maker". (Though it is unclear what this inscription refers to, it may be the signature of a pottery or advertising for a local craftsman or company.) Freehand brushed "3" below spout. Probably a product of N. & A. Seymour of Rome, NY. Highly unusual inscription. X-shaped hairline to shoulder on reverse. Small glazed-over iron ping at base. Iron ping to handle.
