Important Stoneware Harvest Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Signed in Cobalt "KELLY & HARR / Perryopolis / Fayette Co. / Penna," circa 1855, beehive form with applied pouring spout, the body heavily-decorated with three different flower extending from a leafy vine. Additional cobalt stripe at base, cobalt highlights to spout and handle terminals, and tulip blossom brushed under one handle. Reverse inscribed in cobalt slip "KELLEY & HARR / Perryopolis / Fayette Co. / Penna". Exceptional form and decoration, featuring an exceedingly rare signature. Only the second signed example we have seen from this extremely rare potting firm (the other being a crock with a stamped maker's mark). Restored handle. Some tight lines to surface, possibly in-the-firing. A small spout chip. H 9 1/2".
