Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt American Flag, Stamped "A.E. SMITH / 39 Peck Slip, N.Y.," cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with stylized brushed design of an American flag on pole with finial, possibly in the form of a highly-stylized eagle. Made at the Smith family pottery in Norwalk, Connecticut, and stamped with the address of their Manhattan retail shop. Unusual decoration, possibly the only example known from this maker. Excellent condition with some light fry to areas of cobalt.
