Rare Early Stoneware Jug with Incised Federal Eagle Decoration, probably CT origin, early 19th century, ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a large incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a spread-winged Federal eagle with stylized shield across its chest, its talons with stylized olive branches and arrows. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Exceptional and highly-prized figural decoration. In-the-firing contact mark to front below decoration. Chipping to base. Staining to surface. H 15 1/4".
