Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Henry Lowndes, Petersburg, VA, circa 1840, ovoid jar with rounded rim, decorated on the front and back with a top-to-bottom brushed and slip-trailed cobalt floral design featuring large open blossoms. One of the finer examples of Henry Lowndes floral decoration we have seen. Missing one handle. Some light fry to cobalt. Light wear to end of one handle. Hairlines on underside. 3 1/2" hairline extending up from base. A few tiny base nicks. H 12".
