Very Rare Lidded Redware Bean Pot, Stamped "OTT," Frederick, MD origin, circa 1870, squat-formed, ovoid pot with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied strap handles, the interior covered in a lead glaze over a yellowish ground. Pot incised "7". Includes original domed lid with glazed underside, incised "4" on top surface. Pot impressed "OTT" on underside. A fine example of Maryland redware. Provenance: From a thirty-year Maryland collection. Y-shaped hairline on underside, continuing 3" up base of pot. Flaking to surface of pot, typical of Ott redware. Light wear to interior of rim, caused by the pot's lid. A few small flakes to glaze on interior base. Lid in excellent condition. H (including lid) 8 1/2".
