Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "CHELSEA," Massachusetts origin, circa 1850, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed cobalt bird perched on the stem of a flower. An incised slash forms the eye of the bird. Flaking at base. Stone ping on front. 5 1/2" inverted Y-shaped line on reverse. Crack on underside, extending 5" up front of jug. Small chips to interior of rim. H 14 3/4".
