Impressive Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Incised Decoration, Manhattan, NY, origin, early 19th century, approximately four-gallon ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and loop handles, decorated front and back with an incised floral design highlighted in bright cobalt slip. Handle terminals decorated with large cobalt circles. Probably Clarkson Crolius or John Remmey III. Desirable large size and strong decoration. Crack from rim on one side curving directly under handle and stopping partway down the side. Rim chips. Small T-shaped line on underside, continuing partway up jar about 3". Two in-the-making indentations on jar. H 13 1/2".
