Possibly Unique Large-Sized Stoneware Bowl with Cobalt Bird and Leaf Decorations, Dated 1875 in Cobalt, Stamped "M. & T. MILLER / NEWPORT, PA," circa 1870, large-sized bowl with handles, decorated on one side with an elaborate brushed cobalt design of two birds perched on leafy branches. Reverse decorated with two brushed cobalt leaves. Dated under each handle in cobalt "1875," underscored by a cobalt leaf design. Impressed with scarce M. & T. Miller maker's mark on both sides, below the rim. A truly remarkable example of Central PA stoneware. Flaking on exterior and interior. 3" crack from rim. Rim chips. H 6 1/4" ; Diameter 15".
