Rare Southern Stoneware Grave Marker, North Carolina origin, circa 1865, hollow, dome-shaped marker with pointed finial, incised in large letters "J. FULTON / BORN / March 3 1809 / DIED / Sept. 8 1865." Decorated with a coggled design surrounding the incised words and a different coggled design around the base. A small leaf-like design is incised with blunt object above the incised words. Provenance: Purchased in the late 1980"s from Don Walters. Small base chip. Chips to interior edge of underside. H 18".
