Very Rare Glazed Redware Grease Lamp, Greene County, TN origin, circa 1840-1880, wheel-thrown form with saucer base, tall neck, applied handle, and ovoid receptacle with pinched spout, the surface covered in a mottled lead-based glaze, likely colored with iron. Exhibited: Tennessee Turned, Earthenware and Stoneware Made in East Tennessee 1800-1900, Museum of East Tennessee History, May 16-October 30, 2011. Provenance: In her notes, Wahler states the following about this lamp: "Found in an outbuilding in Mosheim. Early and rare. Only E TN earthenware grease lamp I am aware of to date." Two rim chips. Wear to interior, handle, and edge of saucer. Wear to bottom edge of saucer. Large section of restoration to saucer, primarily on underside. A firing crack to interior of saucer, not visible on underside. Other light surface wear. H 7 1/4".
