Glazed Redware Handled Jar, Greene County, TN origin, circa 1820-1850, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder, tooled rim, and wide, ribbed-strap handle with depressed lower terminal, the lead-glazed surface tinted with iron or manganese, featuring olive-to-brown coloration with orange spotting. Lead-glazed interior with olive-colored, orange-spotted surface. Provenance: Wahler states the following about this jar in her notes: "It was purchased from the Brabson family of Bowmantown, Washington Co. This was in the dining room, same house as Mary Belle Jenkins corner cupboard. Two similar have surfaced, one owned by Martha and one by cw." A 5 1/2" crack from rim. Areas of surface wear. Wear to bottom edge. Exfoliation to underside. H 14".
