Extremely Rare Redware Pitcher with Looping Stripe Decoration, Stamped "C A HAUN & CO," Christopher Alexander Haun, Greene County, TN, circa 1840-1860, ovoid pitcher with depressed turning to upper body and beaded molding to midsection of collar, brush-decorated on the left and right side with large looping stripes of brown slip, likely colored with iron oxide, applied under a clear lead glaze. Coggled with raised-face C A HAUN & CO maker's mark below rim incorporating a stylized flower or star within a circle. Crossing coggled decoration to base of handle. Wonderful Haun-style decoration and exceptional form, believed to be the only marked Haun pitcher known. Provenance: Purchased by Wahler at Case Antiques, Inc. Auctions & Appraisals, Knoxville, TN, May 22, 2010, lot 78. Excellent professional restoration to handle. Thin cracks to underside, including some cracks extending onto base area and one extending to midsection. Rim with wear and a few small chips. Some additional surface wear to body of pitcher. Some exfoliation to interior base area. H 8".
