Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jar, attributed to John Wesley Carpenter, Carroll County, VA, fourth quarter 19th century, ovoid jar with thin, angular rim and arched lug handles, decorated around the shoulder with two scalloped incised lines flanking a series of horizontal lines. Surface coated in kaolin slip and decorated with a dipped iron-oxide wash to the upper body under a clear salt glaze.
