Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jug, attributed to James Crawley, Putnam County, TN, mid 19th century, ovoid jug with tooling to shoulder and spout, the surface covered in a salt glaze, likely over a brown slip coating. Includes a handwritten note tag with Wahler's research, stating, "James T. Crawley b. abt 1798 / Maryland d. 1859 / Arkansas. He married in White Co. TN about 1826. See information on 1846 bottle [?] for Billy Ray Hussey and dated 1851 Crawley rundlet that John Case sold 2012." Provenance: Wahler's tag continues, "Middle TN jug purchased Alabama at Doug Fuller pottery last sale (2005). Attributed to James T. Crawley. CW has research. See 1876 MID TN bottle folder and James Crawley folder." Light surface wear to body and wear to base of handle. H 16 1/2".
