Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Churn, Upstate SC origin, fourth quarter 19th century, ovoid form with flaring collar, semi-rounded rim, and arched tab handles, the surface covered in striated dark-olive alkaline glaze. Provenance: Purchased by Wahler at Flomaton Auction, Flomaton, AL. Large restoration to interior base/underside, forming a short, sealed crack at base. Some adhered in-the-firing residue at base. Two base chips and several minor base nicks. Traces of old blue paint to base. Surface wear to body of jar. H 14".
