Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Impressed "A," Pottersville Pottery, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1820-1840, ovoid jar with rounded rim and flattened tab handles, the alkaline-glazed surface featuring glossy olive runs over a light-colored, grayish-green ground. Impressed "A" at base. Provenance: From a fifty-year SC collection. A 2" diagonal hairline from rim. A 2" vertical hairline from rim on reverse. A 1 7/8" flake to one handle and a minor chip to opposing handle. A tight X-shaped crack on underside, forming a long horizontal crack at base. Underside is somewhat misshapen. Some shallow chipping to bottom edge. Some traces of old paint to rim and handles, unrelated to any sort of restoration. H 13".
