Two-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, attributed to Somerset Potters Works, Somerset, MA, circa 1870, tapering churn with tooled shoulder, rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a crossed leaves flanking a spiraling motif accented with spots and dashes. Shoulder decorated with graduated swags. Provenance: William Bouck Collection. A 4 1/2" crack from rim on front. A minor chip to proper right handle. Significant cracks to reverse, forming a large spider crack on underside, which extends onto base in a few additional places. A large area of staining to reverse. Water glass staining to interior. A minor chip and a few tiny nicks to inner rim for lid. H 13 1/4".
