Rare Glazed Redware Jar with Three-Color-Slip Bird and Floral Motifs, Southeastern PA origin, early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, two applied vertical handles, and flattened rim with vertical flange, the lead-glazed surface decorated with elaborate cream, copper, and manganese slip designs. One side depicts a bird atop a gate flanked by foliate motifs, the other side depicts a tulip plant bearing two blossoms. Cream-colored slip dashes accent the shoulder and the base is decoration completely around with straight cream-colored lines flanking a wavy manganese line. Cream-colored slip stripes to handles. A finely-potted and decorated example of early Pennsylania redware. Most of the slip covering the bird is missing. Additional losses to slip on tulips. Some additional surface wear around shoulder. Small chips and wear to flattened section of rim and vertical flange within. Wear to handles. A Y-shaped line on underside, forming a T at base. Some old residue from use at base. Interior with wear and some flakes. H 5 7/8".
