Scarce Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt House Decoration, Stamped "A.O. WHITTEMORE. / HAVANA. N.Y," circa 1870, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, recessed rim molding, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a house with five windows, two chimneys, and door, atop a stylized ground flanked by palm trees. Cobalt accents to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: James Chebalo Collection. A 7 1/2" vertical Y-shaped line on proper left side of crock. A 9" line on right side of crock. A 7/8" rim chip on front. Some fry to cobalt. Some staining and residue to surface. H 11 5/8".
