Two-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "W.H. LEHEW & CO. / STRASBURG VA.," circa 1875, cylindrical crock with squared rim and arched tab handles, brush-decorated with a leaning floral motif on the front and reverse. Dash decoration below each handle, the one handle additionally including a W.H. Lehew maker's mark and two-gallon capacity mark. Includes a salt-glazed lid, Strasburg, VA, origin. Provenance: From a fifty-year VA collection. Heavy chipping to rim and one handle. Residue from use to surface. A small chip to underside along bottom edge. Lid with losses to knob, a large chip to underside along bottom edge, chipping to flange on underside, and a curved 4 1/2" surface line to underside, not visible on top surface of lid.
