Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jars, Western PA origin, circa 1875, both of tapering form with inner "wax sealer" rims, one decorated with a stenciled rose motif, the other with diagonally-stenciled scrollwork between two freehand stripes. Provenance: From a fifty-year VA collection. Shorter with a few chips to interior of rim and some minor staining. Taller with nicks to bottom edge of the rim's exterior, a small chip and minor wear to interior of rim, nicks and wear to inner rim for lid, and minor staining. H (of shorter) 8 1/8".
