Rare Two-Gallon Glazed Stoneware Jar, Stamped Four Times, "WM PENLAND," Buncombe County, NC, late 19th or early 20th century, ovoid jar with arched tab handles and semi-rounded rim, the exterior surface covered in a mottled brown glaze, the interior surface covered in a yellowish-green glaze. Impressed four times down the body with William Penland maker's mark, faint in areas. Impressed below one handle with a two-gallon capacity mark. A tight 3 1/2" vertical line at base. Each handle with a nick and some edge wear. A small, circular in-the-firing contact mark to one side. H 11 3/8".
