One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, attributed to Stephen B. Sweeney, Henrico Co., VA, circa 1838-1868, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with looping brushwork on the front and reverse. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Warping to rim. A glazed-over dent at base and in-the-firing base chip. Minor wear to handle and a tiny handle chip. Opposing handle with minor wear and a minor glazed-over chip. Light surface wear. H 9 1/4".
