Unusual Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "C. McARTHUR & Co./ HUDSON, N.Y.," circa 1850-1854, ovoid, bowl-like jar with applied lug handles and unusual vertical rim designed to hold a domed lid, the front brush-decorated with a double-blossomed floral motif. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Provenance: William Bouck Collection. ***THIS LOT INCLUDES AN UPDATED CONDITION REPORT. THE JAR ORIGINALLY HAD A DOUBLE-WALLED CANNING JAR STYLE RIM. THE OUTER RIM WAS DAMAGED AND GROUND DOWN, LEAVING ONLY THE INNER RIM. Additionally, a small base chip, a tiny nick to shoulder, and a 1" flake and tiny nick to rim. H 9 1/2".
