Fine and Scarce Small-Sized Stoneware Jar with Incised Foliate Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, late 18th century, ovoid jar with narrow, footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and slightly-flared rim, decorated on the front and reverse with an incised and cobalt-highlighted foliate design. Combed accents to interior of incised decoration. Excellent size and early-period combed decoration. Heavy, mostly shallow, chipping to exterior of rim, including three filled rim chips. Shallow chips to interior of rim. Some small surface flakes, a few of which have been filled. H 8 1/2".
