Scarce Glazed Redware Jar with Sponged Manganese Decoration, Middlebury, VT origin, second quarter 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, semi-rounded rim, and distinctive lug handles, the lead-glazed surface featuring a band of black manganese sponging around the shoulder and a series of vertically-sponged manganese columns around the body, all against a mottled reddish ground. Wear to rim. Two small chips to one handle. Minor surface wear to body and handles. Shallow chipping to foot. H 10 3/4".
