Rare Glazed Redware Jar with Marbled Slip Decoration, New England origin, first quarter 19th century, cylindrical jar with tapered shoulder and flattened rim, the lead-glazed surface decorated with a marbled application of manganese and cream slip against a mottled olive-and-orange ground with spotting throughout. A beautifully-glazed example featuring early-period joggled slip treatment, more commonly found on dishes and rarely seen on jars. Includes later Albany-slip-glazed stoneware lid. Two reglued rim chips, measuring 1" and 7/8". An approximately 3" hairline from rim. A few rim chips. A glazed-over base chip. Lid in excellent condition with a small edge chip and an unglazed circular area, as-made. H (without lid) 10 1/2".
