Two-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, attributed Somerset Potters Works, Somerset, MA, circa 1870, tapering form with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with conjoined, plume-like leaves accented with slip-trailed dots and accents. Slip-trailed foliate details flanking the cobalt-highlighted capacity mark. A 2 1/2" hairline from rim, descending from a chip. Small chips and wear to interior of rim. An in-the-firing contact mark to rim. Staining to surface. A minor in-the-firing nick at base. H 13 3/4".
