Three-Gallon Stoneware Cooler with Cobalt Leaf Decoration, Stamped E NORTON & CO / BENNINGTON VT," circa 1881-1885, keg-form cooler with circular bunghole at base accented with cobalt spots, tooled and cobalt-highlighted banding to the upper and lower body, and a slip-trailed foliate motif to midsection. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A surface line across underside, not visible on interior. A thin 8 1/4" vertical crack to reverse. A small in-the-firing chip to underside at edge. Residue from use to bottom edge and bunghole. H 12 5/8".
