Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "WHITE'S UTICA.," NY State origin, circa 1870, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a crested bird with turned head, striped body, and spotted wing, perched on a flowering vine. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A 7/8" flake to front with three short lines emanating from it. A few small base chips. A 1 1/4" line to base of handle. A short, faint line to spout on reverse. A 5" diameter spider line on underside. Staining and small traces of old green paint to surface. H 14 1/4".
