Scarce Rockingham-Glazed Spittoon with Classical Decoration, Marked "YELLOW / ROCK / PHILA," Philadelphia, PA origin, 19th century, molded spittoon with recessed circular opening in top and oval opening at midsection, featuring relief motifs of a soldier's bust flanked by scrolled vines, the surface decorated with brown sponging over a yellow ground. Embossed Yellow Rock Pottery maker's mark on underside. Chip to opening in top with a 3/4" line extending from it. A 1 1/2" filled and colored rim chip and a 1" painted rim chip. A small chip to opening at midsection. Minor high point wear and a minor chip to one vine. A painted 3/4" base chip. Diam. 10" ; H 6 1/4".
