Rare Two-Gallon Elmira, NY Stoneware Advertising Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, attributed to Fulper Pottery, Flemington, NJ, fourth quarter 19th century, cylindrical crock with squared rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a leafy stem. Reverse inscribed with the slip-trailed advertising, "William Walsh, / Elmira, / N.Y." Unusual two-sided cobalt application and rare inclusion of a bird on a Fulper advertising piece. Lesser-seen form for this pottery's script stoneware. Chips to interior of rim. Some water glass staining to surface. H 8 7/8".
