Rare York, PA Stoneware Advertising Jug, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1880, cylindrical jug with tooled spout, featuring the impressed and cobalt-highlighted advertising, "CHA. A. KLINEFELTER / MAINE ST WEST OF / THE BRIDGE." Charles A. Klinefelter was a long-time York, Pennsylvania, merchant. Main Street (spelled here "Maine") is now Market Street, and the bridge would have been the one over the Codorus Creek, which runs through the city. Chips to base of spout. A minor nick to top of spout. A small in-the-firing bloated spot near base. A minor glazed-over dent beside impressed advertising. What appears to be a tight line to the proper left side of the jug's front is actually only a glazed-over scratch. H 9 3/4".
