Fine Two-Gallon Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jug, Stamped "J.A.C.," John Anderson Craven, Randolph County, NC, mid 19th century, highly-ovoid jug with tooled neck and wide, semi-rounded mouth, the surface covered in a salt glaze with drips to the shoulder area and dramatic runs to the proper right side, extending onto the handle. Impressed with "J.A.C." maker's mark on proper right shoulder. Among the better examples of John A. Craven's work that we have offered. A very tight 1 1/4" line to underside, extending 5" up base, where it forms a cross. A few short vertical lines to base. A minor glazed-over flake to handle. A few minor in-the-firing pings to surface. H 14".
