Very Rare Three-Gallon Cobalt-Stenciled Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "ALDERMAN & SCOTT / BELPRE .OHIO," circa 1880, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, featuring Alderman & Scott within a stenciled oval surrounding a stenciled flourish. Stenciled "3" bove within a stenciled circle. The jar shows a strong A.P. Donaghho influence as this business was located directly across the Ohio River from Parkersburg, West Virginia, where Donaghho's pottery was located. Rim chips. Chips to handle, more significant on proper right handle. Restored cracks from rim on reverse. Thin cracks to underside. A few small in-the-firing flaws to surface. H 13".
