Fine Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher, Stenciled "WILLIAMS & REPPERT / GREENSBORO. PA," circa 1885, ovoid pitcher with flared collar and semi-rounded rim, the body decorated with Williams & Reppert maker's stenciling surrounding a stylized stenciled foliate motif, all between a freehand wavy and straight stripe. Freehand "2" with flourishes above. Collar and spout decorated with freehand dashes between two freehand stripes. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Among the best Williams & Reppert pitchers that we have offered, potted in a desirable large size and featuring stronger-than-usual cobalt. A 2 1/2" crack on underside, extending 4 1/2". A glazed-over gouge mark to proper right side and base. Minor surface wear. H 13".
