Rare Glazed Redware Sugar Bowl with Mocha-Style Seaweed Decoration, probably PA origin, second half 19th century, wheel-thrown, ovoid form with footed base and applied circular handles, the surface dipped in yellow slip, decorated with copper and manganese seaweed fans in the English mochaware style, and covered in a clear lead glaze. Desirable form and exceptional glaze treatment. Excellent condition with a minor flake to midsection, minor wear to interior of rim, light wear to one handle, a small chip to glaze on bottom edge (possibly in the firing), and two narrow stacker marks on underside.
