Unusual One-Gallon Stoneware Milkpan with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1820, tapered pan with squared rim, tab handles, and pouring spout, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed cobalt floral motif featuring a daisy blossom within a scalloped border, surrounded by foliate devices. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Possibly the work of Hugh Marshall, a Baltimore potter later active in Fredericksburg and Rockbridge County, VA, this milkpan also reveals a stylistic link in decoration to James River, Virginia stoneware. Loss to left handle. Small chips to right handle. A top-to-bottom crack from rim on right side of vessel. A few rim chips.
